The idea that George Washingtons were made of wood was a myth with unknown origins that remained a popular in American culture and its public schools because it makes George Washington a more approachable figure to study. Though most public-school teachers and dentists today say that his teeth were made of Ivory; however, it goes deeper. Historians have found that George Washington purchased slave teeth that were most likely used for a variation of his dentures.
